Only a basic skill level of cooking is required for this course with the ability to follow a recipe from start to finish with support. Students will be encouraged to move on the Advanced cooking for Independence on the successful completion of this course.
Course information
The students will cook different dishes from around the world which are in season and work out how much each meal costs. This will help to enhance their knowledge of different cultures, sustainability, budgeting, English and communication skills.
35 Weeks From September 2023 to July 2024
Each week you will learn how to cook a different dish from around the world or a dish that is seasonal to the time of year and work out how much it costs. This might be a main course, a dessert, or a baked item such as a cake or bread. Over the duration of the course, you will try lots of new foods and comment on whether you like them or not. You will also learn about the history of the food you have cooked and about the other types of food that they eat in that country.
Students will all follow a Learning Criteria delivered over the year, assessments will be through tutor lead practical, classroom based activities and observations in class.
