Course Overview

The aim of this course is to develop your cooking skills and to learn more about cooking healthy meals that don’t cost too much. You will improve personal, social, and employability skills. You should already have a good skill level for cooking and be able to follow a recipe from start to finish.

Course information

There is some theory work on the course. Each week you will learn about an aspect of food safety or health. Topics include Kitchen Safety, Food Safety, and Storage, Eating Healthily, Food Groups, Being Price aware when shopping, and Food Allergies. You might carry out group exercises, complete worksheets, try different foods or make posters to achieve this.

35 Weeks From September 2023 to July 2024

Each week you will learn how to cook a different dish from around the world or a dish that is seasonal to the time of year and work out how much it costs. This might be a main course, a dessert, or a baked item such as a cake or bread. Over the duration of the course, you will try lots of new foods and comment on whether you like them or not. You will also learn about the history of the food you have cooked and about the other types of food that they eat in that country.

Students will all follow a Learning Criteria delivered over the year, assessments will be through tutor lead practical, classroom based activities and observations in class.

All of our courses are aimed to support students develop their employability skills and life skills. Where courses are set a different levels you may which to progress onto the higher level the following year.
