What's covered?

This challenging and exciting level 3 course is designed to expertly train students with skills for the Film and Television industries and also covers areas such as Radio Drama. Working to professional briefs, you will be immersed in every aspect of production, from scriptwriting to filming and editing and sound recording. Our courses are uniquely structured to remain relevant and taught by experts with direct industry experience, using cutting edge software suites. What you will learn: Core units for this course include: - Single Camera Drama - Research Projects - Film and Video Editing Techniques - Sound Recording and Editing - Digital Photography - Scriptwriting We root these core units in a wide range of creative industries and platforms, to give our students a dynamic outlook on media. These include: - Scriptwriting for film and radio - Understanding the Film and TV Industries - Tailoring media for different audiences - Using our in-house green screen, sound booths and sound studios - Producing music videos, sound effects, Animation and single camera drama productions What you will gain: You will be awarded with a level 3 BTEC qualification in Media Production, accrediting you with professional expertise in your chosen field and the equivalent UCAS points of 3 A Levels. A full diploma is a recognised and valued qualification throughout the industry, giving you excellent career prospects and the ability to move to University level education.

What do you need?

Candidates should have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English language. However an equivalent qualification such as Media BTEC Diploma Level 2 (formerly BTEC First Diploma), with at least a Merit grade, is also accepted. Creative GCSE subjects such as Media, Art, Music, Drama and Technologies or subjects that show strong research skills such as Geography or History are also advantageous. In order to demonstrate your flair for media, we also recommend that applicants bring some creative examples of their work to an interview, such as; film reviews, photography or previous media coursework.

How you are assessed

Our Diploma courses are graded at either Pass, Merit or Distinction and you will be assessed on a continuous basis throughout the various stages of the course. As this is a practical, work-related course. You are assessed through creative projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. There may also be exams and time controlled projects in some units

There are plenty of exciting and hugely diverse employment opportunities within media. Including specialist technical careers in marketing, advertising, graphic design, video production, animation, film, television production and even radio. Previous students from this course have worked on major films, worked as video editors, script writers and animators.
