At the Windsor Forest Colleges Group our mission is to inspire ambition and make a positive difference to lives through learning. The 16-19 Tuition Fund is a one-off allocation of support funding for the academic year 2020-21 only. The funds are to provide disadvantaged students with additional support to get them back on track after disrupted learning due to lockdown.

'Disrupted learning' means that students are out of the habit of learning. To provide this support we have created the role of Progress Coach to deliver our ‘Stay on Track’ Scheme for those learners who need additional help over the forthcoming academic year.

‘Stay on Track' Scheme

Through this scheme, at each of our three Colleges, personalised support will be offered to eligible students, either individually or in small groups (of no more than five) to help them overcome exceptional barriers to their learning which have arisen from the recent lockdowns - this includes loss of motivation to learn, mental health and anxiety issues, starting late at college, loss of good study routines, and subject specific support with literacy and numeracy. Eligible students will be identified through teacher referral, particularly because of progress and attainment in English and maths.

The 'Stay on Track' Scheme will focus on developing resilience strategies to cope with future challenges, particularly over the next year. Help with basic maths and English (in partnership with Get Further https://getfurther.org.uk/) and how to catch up on work, will also be provided by our team of Progress Coaches who will work with our personal tutors and subject staff to enhance the pastoral support and provision already in place.

Students will be offered tailored coaching to help them set goals and overcome barriers to learning. Those students identified as needing this additional support will be strongly encouraged to join the programme and we will carefully monitor participation including contact with carers and parents as needed.

The College will work closely with learners to get feedback on the scheme to ensure support is helpful and relevant to student needs to give maximum benefit and impact.
