What's covered?

This is a diverse course giving an insight into the many paths available in the sports industry. There are opportunities to apply this knowledge in practical settings, including a work experience placement as well as opportunities to develop research skills which are applicable to studying at higher education.

You will learn about a range of avenues within sports, from coaching and leadership to the science of anatomy and physiology. There will be the opportunity to enhance your practical skills in leading sessions, both for groups and on a one-to-one basis, as well as learning about the effects of psychology and nutrition on sports performance. You will also discover the social impact of sport in relation to the media, barriers to participation and the development of sport as a tool for change.

What do you need?

You must have a minimum of four grades 9-4 (equivalent to A--C), including English and Maths at grade 4 and grade 4 in Maths or English GCSE and a Merit in Level 2 BTEC Sport or a grade 4 GCSE PE if taken.

How you are assessed

You will be assessed through external and internal vocational and academic assessments. Just over 30% of the course will be assessed externally, 70% internally assessed. You will take part in both practical and theory based sessions, gaining both the knowledge and hands-on skills to progress into any number of careers within sport.
