What's covered?

This course focuses on how the body and mind work during sport and exercise. There are opportunities to apply this knowledge and understanding practically, as well as research opportunities which help develop skills applicable to higher education.

You will cover the following units: Year 1

  • Fitness training and programming
  • Health, sport and wellbeing
  • Sports leadership
  • Fitness testing
  • Anatomy and physiology

Year 2

  • Fitness services
  • Leisure operations
  • Sports performance and excellence. The units you study will depend on which specialism you take

What do you need?

You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, Maths, Science and PE.

How you are assessed

You will be assessed through external and internal vocational and academic assessments. Just over 30% of the course will be assessed externally, 70% internally assessed. You will take part in both practical and theory-based sessions, gaining both the knowledge and hands-on skills to progress into any number of careers within sport.

On completion of the BTEC you could: Find employment within the sports industry i.e. Leisure Centres, Health and Fitness Industry, Sports Media and many other potentially exciting fields. Help and support to apply to a University of your choice (after meeting entry requirements) either in the UK or on a scholarship to the USE or other countries.
