Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliance of a third party chat plugin listed below. All other aspects of the sites meet AA standard unless explicitly listed in the section ‘Non-accessible content’ listed below (as last assessed on 9th December 2022 [full site scan], and January 17th 2023 [selected pages, manual review])

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Accessibility problem

Tawk.to chat – Buttons do not have discernible text – This relates to the Tawk.to chat box, this is a third party issue, and does not negatively impact on the user experience and does not offer a service that cannot be found through alternative means; email, and telephone. Tawk.to chat – <svg> elements with an img role must have an alternative text – This relates to the Tawk.to chat box, this is a third party issue, and does not negatively impact on the user experience and does not offer a service that cannot be found through alternative means; email, and telephone.

At this time, the tawk.to widget is fully level one (A) compliant and also satisfies some level two (AA) requirements. More information can be found at https://help.tawk.to/article/is-tawk-to-wcag-compliant [last accessed 21/12/22]

We are committed to providing websites that are accessible to all visitors.

Disproportionate burden

Interactive chat

As above, our interactive chat does not fully meet the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.

Our chat function is built and hosted through third party software and styled to look like our website.

We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues with Tawk.to navigation and accessing information, and with interactive tools and transactions. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment when the supplier contract is up for renewal, likely to be in February 2024. At this time, the tawk.to widget is fully level one (A) compliant and also satisfies some level two (AA) requirements. Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.  However, we believe that all PDFs currently published meet accessibility requirements.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
